I understand it has an expandable card slot but how much storage for music is on the phone as it is? Thanks!

it ll depends on the amount of applications you have installed and the build of the OS you ahve installed
There is by default 256 MB,
But around 120-150 is available for applications and music, and you have to really apply some hacks and tricks to load music on to the phone and run it.
So i guess if you are a novice you have no memory available
but if you know how, you have around 120 available you can check at xda developer forum for loading music on your htc hero

the phone comes with 133MB....not sure how much it can be expanded to. but im guessing 16GB
