Get the Hero. Always go Android.
Blackberry is fine. Android is better.
Deval: dude, the Hero uses Android, not Windows. Get your facts straight.

Depends on which one you prefer.
If you need a qwerty keyboard, then you probably shouldn't get the Hero. The one blackberry I've had (the tour) has caused me nothing but problems, my palm pre worked better than this thing, and it wouldn't have surprised me if the pre could pop popcorn.
If you are getting the old curve (8830) then go for it, it was a great phone and one of blackberry's most popular phones, but if its the newer one, be wary.
You should probably look into the functionality of each phone, if you are looking for alot of apps, the android OS has the blackberry app world beat on that front.

The Hero and the BB are two very different phones. Do you want a keyboard, touchscreen, android operating system or Blackberry's operating system, etc. The Blackberry has a keyboard but is not a touchscreen, and movement on the screen is done through a trackball. The hero does not have a keyboard but is a touchscreen. My best recommendation to you is go to a store and try both of them out. As I said before, you are talking about two very different phones. Both have about the same capabilities, but for the android phone you will have to pay for an app if you want to be able to open and edit MS Office docs.
