Smart phones, in particularly, Android devices which multitask, drain a LOT of battery life. Most of the power is consume by the Android system itself. You can lowering the brightness of your screen to assist with reserving battery power.
Also with multitasking phones like the yours, many applications could be running behind the scenes, soaking precious life and you might not even know it.To remedy this, visit the app Market and purchase and "Task Killer" app. A good free one I know is Advance Task Killer.
Every HTC Android device has this particular issue. If your are new to smart phones, this might be new and/or heavily annoying to you. However, you will learn to adjust. The best thing to do (if you still want to keep the phone) is to invest in a another battery, a "battery charger, and if you don't already have one, a car charger.
